Bat Boy: The Musical — a comedy/horror musical with book by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming, and music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe — features a half-human, half-bat creature who is found in a cave near Hope Falls, West Virginia. Taken in by the town veterinarian, Dr. Parker, Bat Boy is taught how to fit into civilized society by Dr. Parker’s wife, Meredith, and daughter, Shelley. However, the townspeople’s intolerance leads to tragedy and a shocking revelation about the truth of Bat Boy’s origin.
Bat Boy explores themes of acceptance, prejudice, and the struggle between civilization and the inner beast lurking within us all. The show concerns a boy who struggles to find his place in an unforgiving society which scorns and fears him for his differences.
