A CRASH COURSE IN MAKING THEATER HAPPEN

YETI's Dionysia Summit took place from December 20th-22nd, 2014. The intent of the project was to get young theatre artists over the hurdles of creating a new show all of their own. We at YETI have encountered many people who have been interested in leading a project but frightened to take on the challenge because they had never done it before. This was our effort to change that.

In the Dionysia Summit, seven participants received random script pages from pre-existing works in the form of the Prometheus Files a week before the performance. It was their job to create an original script using the words within the Prometheus File. They then had three days to create their show together, building sets, finding costumes and props, and designing lights and sound with no budget. The YETI staff was on hand to help answer questions the teams had, but we let them have ownership of their show and made sure they solved problems using their own skills rather than ours. At the end of the three days, they unveiled their work. And voilà—they made a show!
